CENTRE PERMITS MINORS TO RIDE E- SCOOTERS

NEW DELHI: Now, minors aged 16 and above can legally ride electric two wheelers. The government on Friday issued an order amending the Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989. As per the new norms, any two wheeled motor vehicle with engine capacity not exceeding 50cc, if fitted with an electric motor and with maximum speed not exceeding 70 Km per hour, would be registered as Category L1 . Government notificati­on noted that the designed speed must not exceed 30 km. The Centre also enhanced safety provisions for occupants of three wheeled vehicles.

126 nabbed in crackdown against illegal call centres

NOIDA: The Noida Police on Thursday arrested 126 persons from Sector 63 as part of a massive crackdown against illegal call centres operating from the National Capital Region (NCR) that target American and Canadian citizens. Over 300 computer systems along with ₹20 lakh cash was recovered, police said. Police said the “unnamed” call centre was operating out of a four-storey building in E-block of Sector 63 in Noida for the past 7-8 months. The probe was started after software giant Microsoft reported it was receiving complaints from users across the globe that they were targeted by frauds that offered people assistance in the firm’s name.

Journo detained under NSA: Manipur HC issues notices

GUWAHATI: The Manipur high court on Friday issued notices and fixed February 2, 2019 as the next date of hearing, after it heard a habeas corpus petition seeking release of Imphal-based journalist Kishorecha­nd Wangkhem sentenced to a year in detention under the National Security Act (NSA) for social media posts criticisin­g the chief minister. Ranjita Elangbam, Wangkhem’s wife, petitioned the Chief Justice of the Manipur high court. In her applicatio­n, Ranjita annexed the Facebook post by former Supreme Court judge, Justice Markandey Katju, seeking quashing of the NSA and said it may be treated as a letter petition.
