Prajnesh, Ramkumar get wild cards for Tata Open
PUNE: India’s No 1 singles player Prajnesh Gunneswaran was on Friday handed a wild card entry into the main draw of the Tata Open Maharashtra ATP tournament, to be held here from December 31 to January 5. Gunneswaran and Ramkumar Ramanathan will be the two wild card entrants while SK Mukund and Saket Myneni will have to go through the qualifiers.
Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis will inaugurate the upcoming Tata Open Maharashtra to be played at the Mhalunge Balewadi Stadium.
AAKARSHI TO FACE PURVE IN GIRLS’ FINAL
LUCKNOW: Defending champion Aakarshi Kashyap brushed aside 13th seed Deepshikha Singh of Delhi 21-13, 21-12 in 35 minutes to advance into the girls’ under-19 singles final in the Junior National Badminton Championships, at the UP Badminton Academy courts here on Friday.
Aakarshi, who is from Bhilai Chhattisgarh, will face team mate and third seed Purve Barve, who beat second seed Malvika Bansod of Maharashtra 21-15, 21-19 in the other semi-final. Top seed in boys’ under-19 singles, Kiran George of Kerala, too made it to the final, brushing aside Orijit Chaliha 21-14, 21-18 .
WARRIORS VICTORIOUS IN 500TH PKL GAME
KOLKATA: Bengal Warriors started their home leg with a bang, defeating Tamil Thalaivas 27-24 in a Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) Season 6 match here on Friday. Incidentally, this was the 500th match in the history of PKL.
