KANNAUJ/LUCKNOW: Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav announced his party’s alliance with one-time arch-rival Bahujan Samaj Party for the 2019 polls on Friday, saying the coalition will get “the math right” and defeat the BJP. A formal announceme­nt is expected at a press conference in Lucknow on Saturday. “As of now, the alliance is only between two parties. Dera chief convicted for journalist’s murder in 2002

PANCHKULA: Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim was on Friday convicted by a special CBI court for the murder of journalist Chhatrapat­i, in 2002. He was shot at point-blank range in Sirsa on October 24, 2002, months after his newspaper published an anonymous letter alleging Ram Rahim had raped women followers. ››P9

NAGPUR: Vaishali Yede, 28, a farm widow, inaugurate­d the 92nd Akhil Bhartiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan in Yavatmal on Friday, amidst protests from the audience for revoking the invitation of noted writer, Nayantara Sahgal, to inaugurate the meet. Marathi writer Laxmikant Deshmukh said that the revocation of invite was “a wrong decision”. ››P9

Legs of foetus broke, liver damaged: Autopsy

BARMER: The autopsy report of a foetus that was decapitate­d inside the mother’s womb during a botched delivery at a government community health centre in Jaisalmer revealed the legs of the baby were fractured and liver ruptured – on account of excessive use of force by medical staff. Police said one male nurse Amrit Lal has been arrested while another Junjhar Singh is on the run. On Friday, the Rajasthan government also suspended the two, officials said. ››P13
