Fire brigade sends notice to 17 eateries for flouting norms
MUMBAI : Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) has issued notices to 17 eating establishments in Kurla (L ward) for non-compliance of fire safety norms.
The notice calls to cut water and electricity supply in these 17 establishments after it was found the restaurants did not comply to the earlier notice that was given two months ago.
Of late, the fire brigade has been taking strict action against various commercial establishments after it received flak for the series of fires that broke out in the last week of December.
Following this, the MFB had issued notices for non-compliance of fire safety norms to Bombay Gymkhana and Cricket
Club of India (CCI), both renowned establishments in the city.
They were sent notices on Thursday for non-compliance as per the Fire Safety Act. On Thursday, the MFB also sent notices to 17 establishments located in Kurla, mostly on LBS Marg.
PS Rahangdale, chief fire officer, MFB, said, “We had earlier issued a notice to them about two months ago under section 3, when we noticed several deviations. Following this, when we re-inspected the area, we found they had not complied to the earlier notice. So we have issued a fresh notice under section 8 of the Fire Safety Act. The new notice calls to cut water and electricity supply till the establishment adheres to the earlier notice.”
The civic body’s water department and Adani electricity, which supplies electricity to these establishments, have been informed about these notices.
