Kashmir held, miss chance to close in on toppers Chennai

AIZAWL:REAL Kashmir had to settle for a goalless draw against former champion Aizawl FC in their I-league clash at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium on Friday. Real Kashmir have drawn level on points with secondplac­ed Churchill Brothers, but are behind on goal difference, as the head-to-head record between the two teams currently stands at 0-0.

Hence, the Snow Leopards are placed third on the 12th table with 22 points, two points behind Chennai City FC.

In a match with few chances for both sides, Aizawl FC skipper Alfred Kemah Jaryan was awarded the ‘Hero of the Match’ for his combative performanc­e in the middle of the park. Meanwhile, Mohun Bagan would have revenge in mind when they face NEROCA FC in their I-league clash at the Saltlake Stadium, on Saturday.

Appointed at short notice, Khalid Jamil got off to a winning start as Mohun Bagan blanked defending champions Minerva Punjab 2-0 on Wednesday to keep their title hopes alive. NEROCA FC on the other hand are on a six-match unbeaten run and defeated Shillong Lajong 3-2 at home in the last round as the Imphal outfit .

TN THRASHES ASSAM IN HOCKEY NATIONALS

CHENNAI:TAMIL Nadu hammered Assam 13-1 in a Pool ‘G’ match of the 9th Hockey India Senior National men’s Hockey Championsh­ip ‘B’ Division on Friday.

Hockey Maharashtr­a, Manipur Hockey, Central Industrial Security Force, Chhattisga­rh Hockey, Hockey Coorg, Food Corporatio­n of India, Delhi Hockey and Sports Authority of India also recorded wins.

KARTHIKEYA­N ENDS SINGLE SEATER CAREER

TOKYO: India’s first Formula 1 driver Narain Karthikeya­n on Friday made a full-time switch to sports car racing, ending a twodecade old singe seater career after securing a drive in Japan’s Super GT series.

He will be competing with the likes of former F1 world champion Jenson Button, who made his Super GT debut last year.
