BLUE LIGHT TO STOP COMMUTERS FROM BOARDING MOVING CR TRAIN

MUMBAI : To deter commuters from boarding moving trains, the Central Railway has installed a blue light visual indicator outside one of the compartmen­t of its local trains. The indicator will blink when the train is about to start, alerting passengers against boarding the train. “Visual indicator emits a beam of light over the entrance. The device will definitely act as a psychologi­cal barrier and a deterrent for commuters from boarding moving trains,” reads a press release issued by the CR.

Duo steals ATM card, ₹15K, cellphone in Navi Mumbai

NAVI MUMBAI: Kopar Khairane Police have registered a case against two unidentifi­ed persons involved in a theft. According to the cops, the accused snatched a mobile phone, an ATM card and ₹15,000 from a 28-year-old man on Saturday. Somnath Dhawade had withdrawn cash from an ATM and was exiting the kiosk when the culprits snatched the valuables from his hand. Dhawade later approached the police and reported the theft.

7 cows die after drinking ‘polluted’ water in Virar

VIRAR: Seven milch cows allegedly died after drinking polluted water in Virar on Saturday. The Virar police have initiated a probe and are awaiting autopsy report. The cows belong to Sadananand Maharaj, who owns a cattle shed near the Vasai phata. Officials from Maharashtr­a State Pollution Control Board and local veterinary official have collected water and blood samples.

5 farmers protest water diversion in Palghar, held

PALGHAR: Five farmers were arrested by Manor Police on Saturday for protesting the proposed diversion of water from Surya river to residentia­l areas in Mira-bhayander, Vasai and Virar. Minor history-sheeter arrested in Karnataka

KOLHAPUR: Shekhar Jadhav, a minor history–sheeter who had fled from a remand home in Kolhapur, was arrested from Nipani area in Karnataka on Saturday. Jadhav leads a gang that has several cases of murder and extortion against it.

Farmer commits suicide after crop failure

KOLHAPUR: Dnandev Patil, 65, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree at Khantagale in Kolhapur on Friday. Locals said Patil was facing financial woes following a recent crop failure owing to which he was unable to repay his loan.
