MD WORTH ₹40L SEIZED, POLICE ARREST DEALER AND SUPPLIER

MUMBAI: Amboli police on Monday arrested a 32-year-old alleged dealer of banned drug mephedrone (MD), along with his supplier. They seized one kilogram of MD worth ₹40 lakh from the duo.

The dealer was identified as Imran Ansari and his supplier Afzal Ansari, 38. They were arrested in Andheri (West).

Police said Imran is one of the biggest dealers of MD in Bandra (West) and used to buy the drug from Ansari in Andheri (West) to avoid the attention of Bandra police. The accused were found to be in possession of one kilogram of MD worth ₹40 lakh. Police have also seized an electronic weighing machine and a bike from the spot

“We had worked on informatio­n we received about the presence of the accused in our police station’s jurisdicti­on.

The accused had come to a spot near a building close to the MHADA (Maharashtr­a Housing and Area Developmen­t Authority) ground at Andheri (West),” said police inspector, Daya Nayak.

Police said they are searching for the people who manufactur­e the drug and send it to the supplier. In a statement, police said the arrest of Imran will dent the functionin­g of drug peddlers in the western suburbs.

Officials have also found many small packets in which the MD was packed in the quantity of grams and sold to the consumers.

Imran and Afzal have been arrested under section 22 and 29 of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotrop­ic Substances (NDPS) Act and were produced in a local court on Monday.
