MORE THAN LAW, CONSCIENCE NEEDED TO CURB ACCIDENTS

-

When are we going to understand the value of human life? (Maya unsafe ride: 13K died in road mishaps in state in 2018). The number of deaths due to road mishaps is increasing year by year. People seem to not be serious about it as they are often seen not following the traffic rules and indulge in indulge in drink and drive, which has become very common these days. If people are not serious about the issue, no law can change our society.

SPEED GOVERNORS MUST FOR VEHICLES

It is saddening to know that road accidents on Pune expressway are growing steadily (114 killed in accidents on Pune e-way in 2018, January 14). There was a time when Mumbai –Pune Expressway was called a state-of-art-expressway but it has started to now become a gateway to hell. Speed governor on commercial vehicles should be made mandatory in order to curb such fatal accidents. DEEPAK CHIKRAMANE

TIME FOR THE BMC TO INCORPORATE BEST

BMC and Shiv Sena should jointly put effort to end to the week-long BEST impasse (BEST strike enters 7th day; Sena mulls union’s demands, January 14). When BMC, the country’s richest civic body, has money in surplus from the budget allotments every year, and the Shiv Sena has now shown its willingness to merge the budget of BEST with that of the BMC, I don’t think it will be difficult for the civic body to adopt BEST. Wet-leasing or part-privatisation of BEST, as proposed by the BMC commissioner Ajoy Mehta, will not find favour with the workers.
