Never hand over your credit/debit card to a stranger while shopping or anywhere else. If you do, ensure your card is not exchanged with another card. This is a new modus operandi used by fraudsters

Banks never call customers, asking for their credit or debit card details such as 16-digit number and CVV

Don’t hand over your ATM card to a waiter or to any person while making a payment. Always swipe the card yourself, and cover the keypad while entering PIN Never write your four-digit PIN on the ATM card or its cover; If it gets stolen the thief can use the details to withdraw money. Such cases have occurred in the past

If possible create a separate bank account with minimum cash balance of ₹10,000 or ₹20,000. So even if your card reaches a fraudster, he will not be able steal all your savings.

If your card is stolen, call up the bank's customer care number immediatel­y and ask them to block it. DECEMBER 2018

A senior citizen lost ₹97,000 from his pension account in November, as scamsters gave out their contact number in place of the contact details of his bank’s Vikhroli branch on Google Maps.

The man thought he was dialling his bank number and ended up speaking with the fraudster OCTOBER 2018

Narayan Rathod, 47, searched his bank’s customer care number online and dialled one of the numbers listed as customer care.

A fraudster, posing as a customer care executive, asked for his ATM card details to provide a mini bank statement and used the details to generate OTP which the complainan­t shared with the fraudster. A total of ₹50,000 was withdrawn from his account.
