LAKHIMPUR KHERI/BAHRAICH: Kashmir is still a challenge due to destabilis­ing activities by Pakistan, Union home minister Rajnath Singh said here on Monday. He was talking to the media after inaugurati­ng the administra­tive building, residentia­l block and officers’ mess at SSB headquarte­rs. “Kashmir is still a challenge due to destabilis­ing activities by neighbouri­ng Pakistan. However, the Army, the CRPF, the J&K police and intelligen­ce bureau men are acting in better coordinati­on,” he said.

Secretary General and High Representa­tive for Disarmamen­t Izumi Nakamitsu and Foreign Secretary Vijay Keshav Gokhale on Monday inaugurate­d the First Annual Disarmamen­t and Internatio­nal Security Affairs Fellowship Programme organised by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) here. The programme is being held at the Foreign Services Institute from January 14-February 1.

Student kills instructor over suspicion of affair with mom

KARNAL: A student of Industrial Training Institute in Rohtak allegedly murdered his instructor over suspicion of having an affair with his mother. The deceased has been identified as Munish Kumar, 28, of Fulian Kalan village of Jind district and he was posted in ITI in Kansla village of Rohtak district. He was living in a rented room in Rohtak. Police said the accused hit the him with sticks on January 6 and dumped his body in a canal near Urlana village Panipat district.

Worker dies in J’khand coal mine, firm says suicide

RAMGARH: A 58-year-old coal miner was killed Monday allegedly after being trapped in an undergroun­d mine at the Barka-sayal area of Central Coalfields Ltd (CCL) here, police said. A company official, however, claimed it could be a case of suicide as he entered the undergroun­d mine by violating norms.
