UK PM THERESA MAY LOSES VOTE ON BREXIT DEAL

LONDON : British lawmakers voted overwhelmi­ngly to reject the EU divorce deal struck between London and Brussels, in a historic vote that moved United Kingdom into what PM Theresa May called ‘uncharted territory’. MPS in the House of Commons voted 432 to 202 to reject the deal. May has until Monday to come up with a “Plan B”. UK is set to leave EU on March 29, a deadline that can’t be changed unless the former revokes Article 50 of the Lisbon treaty.

Javadekar: EBC quota to roll out this session

NEW DELHI: Private colleges — both aided and unaided —must provide 10% quota for economical­ly weaker sections, and for SC, ST and OBC students from 201920 academic session, Union HRD minister Prakash Javadekar said. The government hopes to achieve this through a bill it will introduce in the budget session. ››P8

HAL acquires fighter jets, yet to supply trainer aircraft

NEW DELHI: Indian Air Force has 11 Tejas fighters built by the staterun HAL, and could get five more by March, but it doesn’t have a single aircraft to train pilots to fly the warplane. The two-seater trainer aircraft are not expected to be delivered before 2021. ››P10

5 drown, 39 rescued after boat capsizes in Narmada
