Man molests 16-yr-old inside Titwala local, arrested at Mulund
MUMBAI : A 32-year-old man was arrested by the Dadar Government Railway Police (GRP) for allegedly molesting a 16-yearold girl inside a Titwala Fast local train on Tuesday.
The accused has been identified as Om Hari Satyanarayan Singh, a resident of Kalwa.
The victim, along with her male friend, boarded the general compartment of the train from Dadar at 8.15pm.
When Singh also tried to board the train, he allegedly kept his hands on the girl’s shoulders. When the girl objected, the accused molested her.
The girl, a Class 12 student, screamed after the incident and told her male friend about it. However, they realised that Singh had taken advantage of the crowd and fled the scene before the train had started moving, entering the next compartment.
As the train was a fast local, it stopped directly at Kurla station where the victim spotted the accused standing amid the commuters in the next compartment.
The victim called out to the commuters in the next compartment to get a hold of the accused.
When the train next came to a stop at Mulund station, the victim and her friend intercepted the accused and forced him to alight the train with the help of other commuters.
However, the accused denied he had molested the girl. But commuters assaulted the accused before GRP officers
arrived at the spot and took custody of the accused.
“We have arrested the accused for assault and molestation and as he had also suffered injuries, he was sent to the hospital,” said Prasad Pandhare, senior police inspector of Dadar GRP.
“The accused was presented before the court where he was remanded to police custody for four days,” he further said.
Police said the accused has also been booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
