BMC SHOULD MAKE BEST ONE OF ITS DEPARTMENTS

-

It is pathetic to see office-goers facing so much difficulty in reaching their offices, in the absence of BEST buses (Seven days on still no BEST answer to workers’ demands, January 15). Also, the rickshaws and taxis drivers are exploiting the commuter’s helplessness. The only viable solution is that the BMC should make BEST as one of its departments and bail it out with its annual budget.

One hopes that the Bombay high court steps in and brings the buses back on the roads.

With an alarming increase in the losses due to the rigid attitude of the BMC and the government, the urgent need of the hour is to agree to the demands made by the BEST workers. Their grievances must be taken into consideration so that the strike, which has crippled the city, can come to an end at the earliest. The commuters are struggling and suffering to the maximum extent. It is high time the Bombay high court must out a directive to the BMC, BEST and the government to end the strike immediately.

SEDITION CHARGE AGAINST KANHAIYA KUMAR JUSTIFIED

The police is justified in filing sedition charges against EX-JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar and his associates (2016 JNU event: Cops slap sedition charges, January 15). It was long overdue as it is disturbing to see anti-national activities brew inside the JNU campus which is a place of learning. Kumar, who was allegedly spearheading Afzal Guru’s death anniversary, had provoked the fellow students to raise such slogans. It was no less than a threat to India’s sovereignty and integrity.
