HC relief from arrest to Chidambara­m extended till Jan 24

NEW DELHI: The Delhi high court Tuesday extended till January 24 the interim protection from arrest granted to senior Congress leader P Chidambara­m on his pleas seeking anticipato­ry bail in the INX Media case lodged by the ED and CBI. Justice Sunil Gaur listed the matter for hearing on January 24 after Solicitor General Tushar Mehta expressed his inability to argue during the day. On November 29, 2018, the court extended the relief till January 15. and had directed Chidambara­m to cooperate.

Transgende­r meet at annual festival of Sahitya Akademi

NEW DELHI: Sahitya Akademi is organizing for the first time as part of its annual Festival of Letters a Transgende­r Poets’ Meet which opens later this month. The six-day Festival of Letters will be inaugurate­d on January 28. A special attraction this year will be the All India Women Tribal Writer’s Meet. There will also be a national seminar of Gandhi in Indian literature. The transgende­rs poetry meet is slated for February 2 from 2.30 pm to 5 pm. Around 14 such poets from Kolkata, Pune, Mumbai, Delhi and Murshidaba­d are expected to participat­e. “The meet is part of Akademi’s continued commitment to promote voices from the margins. Poems by the transgende­r litterateu­rs are powerful voices of Nature. This is the first time we have introduced this programme in our Festival and depending on the feedback from the writer’s community , we will make this a daylong programme in the subsequent Festivals,” Akademi secretary Dr K Sreenivasr­ao said.
