MANU SAWHNEY NAMED NEW ICC CHIEF EXECUTIVE

DUBAI : Manu Sawhney, the former managing director of ESPN Star Sports, has been appointed Internatio­nal Cricket Council’s (ICC) new chief executive, the sport’s governing body announced on Tuesday. Sawhney will join the ICC next month before formally taking over the reins from David Richardson, whose contract expires at the end of the World Cup in July. Indiaborn Sawhney was the unanimous choice following a global recruitmen­t process led by ICC chairman Shashank Manohar and the nomination­s committee. “He brings 22 years of outstandin­g commercial experience to the ICC and will lead the delivery of our new global growth strategy for the game,” Manohar said in a statement.

BCCI CEO Johri speaks to Pandya, Rahul

NEW DELHI : Suspended India players Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul gave statements to BCCI CEO Rahul Johri in a telephonic deposition on Tuesday, initiating the inquiry into their comments in a TV chat show. “His brief was simply as the inquiry initiator. He has to just collate whatever they have written in their reply. He is expected to submit his report to COA by tomorrow, (Wednesday)” a BCCI official told PTI.

Club cricketer dies in Kolkata during warm up

KOLKATA: Aniket Sharma (21), a club cricketer in Kolkata, died after complainin­g of breathing problems and chest pain while warming up at his club Paikpara Sporting on Tuesday. The cause of death will be determined after a post-mortem at the hospital where Sharma was declared brought dead. He was a left-hand batsman who bowled off-spin.
