MUMBAI: A 23-year-old man was recently arrested by Bandra police for allegedly hitting his friend with a rock and killing him. The victim’s body was found near the Bandra pipeline on January 4 and he was allegedly killed a day before. The police are on the lookout for another accused.

According to the police, prima facie, it appears that the two accused and the victim were in a sexual relationship. The accused allegedly did not want the relationship to come to the fore and hence, murdered the victim. Police said the victim’s body was found naked near the mangroves and his clothes were around 200m away. “We used our informers and sub-inspector Bhimsen Gaikwad found that the victim was from Mahim,” said an officer. According to the police, the arrested accused, a daily wager, worked with caterers in Mahim.

“The deceased was also in the same profession. We checked the CCTV footage of the area on the day of the murder and found both of them walking on the road,” said the officer. The cops traced the arrested accused to Karnataka. “We tracked him to Gulbarga and a team was sent there last week to nab him. Having been informed about the police, he changed his clothes thrice and avoided bus or trains to escape. He was brought to Mumbai,” the officer said.

He has been remanded in police custody for seven days by the court.
