Kejri receives threat call, police probe on
NEWDELHI:A phone call, warning of a threat to Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, was received at his north Delhi residence on Monday, the police said.
The caller, who did not identify himself, said a tent house owner from west Delhi’s Vikaspuri was planning to carry out an attack on the chief minister at his residence, Nupur Prasad, deputy commissioner of police (north), said. “The caller named the person, identified his tent house and warned that he was planning to attack the CM at his residence. He then disconnected the call,” the DCP said.
The call was received by the CM’S personal security officer (PSO) who immediately alerted the police and the other authorities. “The landline phone on which the call was received does not have a caller ID. We have written to the telecom provider to provide us details about the call and the caller,” the officer said. The police, meanwhile, reached the tent house and apprehended its owner. “He turned out to be a resident of Rajouri Garden and had been running the tent house business for the last 16 years,” the DCP said. The tent house owner, 47, was interrogated jointly by multiple departments of Delhi Police and other intelligence agencies.
“The man’s interrogation hasn’t pointed to any conspiracy or plans to attack the chief minister. He does not have a past criminal record and appeared dumbfounded on being informed of the allegations against him,” another investigator said.
Until Monday evening, he was being questioned by the investigators, but police said they hadn’t found any reason to book him. “It is possible someone bearing a personal grudge was trying to frame him,” the officer said. The latest warning call comes more than a week after an email warned that Kejriwal’s daughter may be “kidnapped and harmed”. The police had then arrested a native of Bihar, who is preparing for competitive exams in the city, in connection with that email.
