MUMBAI: The Dadar police recently arrested a 52-year-old man for allegedly posing as the assistant charity commission­er and cheating a 69-year-old man who runs a charitable trust. The accused, Kishor Tandel was arrested from Sion Koliwada and was produced in the court on Sunday.

Hair donation drive for cancer survivors in Bandra

MUMBAI: A cancer care NGO is organising a hair donation drive at Bandra Fort on Sunday. People willing to donate will get a haircut. The hair collected will be used to make wigs for underprivi­leged cancer survivors. The event will also feature doodling sessions, body painting, live music and dance performanc­es. “People can join the event to express their support,” said Roshini Kumar, a young survivor serving as ambassador of the campaign.

Wall collapses at Andheri (East), no casualties

MUMBAI: A portion of wall of a ground plus one building collapsed in Mukund Nagar, MIDC, Andheri (East) on Wednesday. No one was injured in the incident, which took place at a sweet shop. The Mumbai Fire Brigade and local police arrived at the site and carried out the rescue operation.

Repeat offender held for robbing phone in Malad

MUMBAI: A 25-year-old repeat offender, Ayaz alias Nawab Nazir Shaikh, was arrested for allegedly slashing the hand of Manish More, a 21-year-old college student, while trying to slash his neck and robbing his phone in Malad (East) on Monday. The phone and knife have been recovered from the accused, a resident of Shiv Shahi Prakalp in Goregaon (East), said the Dindoshi police.

Gram sevak arrested for accepting ₹25,000 bribe

THANE : Sleuths of the anti-corruption bureau (ACB) on Wednesday arrested Anantrao Meshram, 51, gram sevak of Einvar village in Palghar district, for allegedly taking a bribe of ₹25,000 from a villager. Meshram had sought the money from the villager in lieu of issuing a rectified permission for constructi­on of a farm house.

Duo arrested with stolen mobiles in Matunga

MUMBAI: The Matunga police, with the help of CCTV footages, recently arrested two people and recovered three stolen mobile phones from them in Matunga. The duo used to snatch mobile phones of women walking on the roads. The arrested accused are identified as Mohammed Asif Ansar Khan, 19, and Mohammed Sadiq Aslam Kham, 20. “We have seized three mobile phones from them,” said Bharat Bhoite, senior police inspector.

Slain police officer’s family demands police protection

KOLHAPUR: Family members of a slain police officer have approached the superinten­dent of police at Kolhapur and demanded protection as they are receiving threats for pursuing the murder case against police officer Abhay Kurundkar who is arrested under the murder charge.

Four promised low-interest loan, duped of ₹35 lakh

KOLHAPUR: Four people were duped of ₹35 lakh in Kolhapur by a gang that promised to offer loans at a low rate of interest. The complainan­ts received a call from a woman claiming she worked for a noted finance company. She lured them into taking a loan. Police are investigat­ing the modus operandi.
