NAGPUR: Four sub-inspectors (PSIS) and two constables of Nagpur Police were suspended on Tuesday for their alleged link with drug mafia Abu Aziz Khan (47). Abu, a hard-core criminal of Tajbagh area, was arrested a couple of days ago with mephedrone “MD,” a synthetic drug, by the special cell of the Nagpur police. He is also a drug-peddler.

Police sub-inspectors who were suspended include: Nilesh Purbhe, Manoj Orke, Sharad Shikne and Sajid Mowal, while the constables are Shyam Mishra and Jayanta Shelot.

Shelot has been suspended for the second time for his alleged link with Abu. He was suspended a couple of months ago after a video of his dancing at the birthday party of Abu had went viral. He was reinstated at Kotwali police station before being shifted to police headquarters.

Joint police commissioner Ravindra Kadam said that the suspension order was issued in view of the seriousness of allegations against the officials. “We have also ordered a preliminary inquiry against the six.” NEW DELHI: A Delhi court on Wednesday directed the Delhi Police to ask the state government to expedite the process of deciding on giving sanction to prosecute former Jawaharlal Nehu University students’ union president Kanhaiya Kumar and nine others in a sedition case.

“Authorities can’t sit on the file indefinitely,” said chief metropolitan magistrate Deepak Sehrawat. “After filing of the chargesheet, no department can sit on its hand with the file with regard to the sanction. The concerned department would do well to speed up the matter regarding the sanction.”

The court adjourned the matter till February 28. According to the charge sheet, Kumar and others had allegedly shouted anti-india slogans in the varsity campus on February 9, 2016. Under the code of criminal procedure (CRPC), investigating agencies have to get sanction from the state government while filing charge sheets in sedition cases. It is only then that the court will take cognizance of the charge sheet and begin the process for framing of charges.

On January 19, the court had rapped the Delhi Police for filing the charge sheet in the case without procuring the requisite sanctions. As per the government records, the file is with Delhi Home Minister, Satyendar Jain.

On Tuesday, officials of the Delhi home department said that they were going through the charge sheet and examining each evidence. The officials also said that police had sent them the copy of the charge sheet just two hours before they submitted it in court on January 14.
