Soon, pay fees for medical, engg and management courses online

MUMBAI: The state common entrance test (CET) cell is planning to introduce an online payment gateway for those seeking admission to professional courses in health science, engineering and management colleges. Aspirants will no longer have to visit the institutes to confirm seats allotted to them and pay the fees.

While a final decision is yet to be taken, the CET cell has invited expressions of interest (EOI) from private agencies to carry out the task at designated centres, known as SETU Suvidha Kendra.

Until now, the students had to visit the institute where they were allotted a seat through the centralised admission process (CAP) to manually confirm the admission by paying the fees.

According to authorities, the facility will ensure that the students are able to complete the admission process without any hiccup. “Whenever the admission confirmation of a student doesn’t come through, the colleges claim that the candidate wasn’t present at the time of admission, while the candidate claims of being present. The e-payment gateway will put an end to these issues,” said Anand Rayate, commissioner, CET cell.

HT last month reported that four students were unable to confirm their admission at a law college in Panvel, due to a technical glitch.

Meanwhile, the CET cell on Friday was yet to decide on the admissiondatefor postgraduate medical seats as the Bombay high court (HC) is hearing a petition against implementation of the 16% Maratha quota. The HC has set February 14 as the date to discuss the petition.
