Mumbai:following protest mails from various state associations, the Board of Control for Cricket in India has opened a 48-hour window for the state units to complete their player registration process for the men’s Under-23 one-dayers and the Twenty20 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

The original cut off dates for registration of players in U-23 and senior T20 men’s was Jan 29 and Feb 6 respectively, which is a cutoff date of 15 days between the registration of players and the start of the tournament.

On Friday, a series of mails from the state units, including Milind Kanmadikar, hon secretary of the MP Cricket Association, Arun Kumar, hon secretary of the Andhra CA, Prof Ratnakar Shetty, who is member of the court-appointed committee to oversee the affairs of Hyderabad CA, to the BCCI General Manager, Saba Karim, asked for extension of deadline to within 48 hours of the starting of the tournament. The T20 event starts on Feb 21 and the U-23 event kicks off on Feb 13. “We have requested the BCCI that some players, who are left out, be allowed to be registered. We received a communication that no such requests will be entertained beyond the original cut-off date. We are falling short of time for finalising of our teams,” wrote the Andhra CA secretary.

During the Ranji Trophy season, the Mumbai Cricket Association had faced a similar issue when they tried to add Vikrant Auti to their squad midway through the tournament. They had to make repeated requests.
