MUMBAI: A 57-year-old veteran actor, Mahesh Anand, was found dead at his residence in Versova on Saturday.

According to Versova police, prima facie they have not found anything suspicious about his death. It appears that he was alone at home when he died. However, post mortem reports are awaited to ascertain the actual cause of his death, police said

“Anand’s body was found at his residence on Saturday. The actual cause of his death has not been ascertained yet. We are waiting for the post mortem report of the deceased,” said Ravindra Badgujar, senior police inspector, Versova police station.

“Anand used to stay alone. On Saturday, his domestic help rang his doorbell multiple times but he did not open the door. She then called Anand’s sister who lives nearby. When his sister arrived, even she could not get the door unlocked after which we were informed,” said a police officer.

Police then called the fire brigade officers, who broke open the door. “Anand’s body, which was found on the bed, had not decomposed completely but there was a foul smell in the house,” said a police officer. According to police sources, an alcohol bottle was also found near his body. Sources added that Anand’s wife lives in Moscow and two of his sisters live near his residence.

According to reports, Anand had not been active in the film industry for the last 18 years. He was on the lookout for work and was offered a small role in a recent movie. He acted as a villain in many movies in the nineties and eighties. Mahesh Anand was last seen in Govinda-starrer Rangeela Raja, which released on January 18.
