24-year-old poses as TC at Dadar station, arrested

MUMBAI: A 24-year-old man was arrested by Dadar government railway police (GRP) officers on Friday for allegedly impersonating a ticket checker (TC) and extorting money from commuters.

According to GRP officers, the incident took place at 10:45 am at platform number seven. The complainant, Sachin Ganesh Mhatre, 35, a resident of Kurla, got off at Dadar station from a Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (Csmt)-bound train to go to Andheri. He was intercepted by the accused, Vinay Mahendra Pandey, claiming to be a TC. The accused demanded to see Mhatre’s ticket. “I travel from Kurla to Andheri daily and change trains at Dadar station. On Friday, a ‘TC’ asked me to show my ticket. As the man was in casual attire, I asked him to show his ID card instead. He started arguing with me,” said Mhatre. On seeing them argue, a team of GRP constables approached them.

Mhatre told the police that he suspected the man claiming to be a TC fake. The officers then asked Pandey to show his ID card. “The accused showed an ID card of a private company. We arrested him for impersonation and are finding out how many commuters he has duped till now,” said Prasad Pandahre, senior police inspector.
