I THINK THAT AN OPPORTUNITY FOR GROWTH WAS LOST
The government has proposed pension schemes only to garner votes from the unorganised working class.
People in the unorganised sector are facing severe food inflation and a housing crisis, among other issues. How can they afford the premiums they would have to pay annually under this scheme?
No significant effort has been made to galvanise industry and incentivise job-creation. In a country as young as ours, this is an urgent need if we do not want to have an entire generation of disillusioned youngsters on our hands.
A nation, like a person, should live within its means. We could face a massive fiscal deficit due to the various budgetary give-aways.
Core issues such as infrastructure and unemployment have not really been addressed sufficiently. I feel an opportuface nity for growth has been squandered.
Rajendra Aneja and I hope to see improvement in the sector soon. For the first time, military spending is set to cross Rs 3 lakhs crore. This is again a welcome move; we must safeguard our borders, give our army personnel the best equipment.
However, the budget has serious drawbacks when it comes to the health sector. I don’t see why successive budgets have neglected this field. I am particularly annoyed that the government has reduced the budget for the cancer prevention/control scheme, especially when there is a rise in cancer related deaths.
