21-year-old held for vulgar, defaming FB posts about politico’s daughter
MUMBAI: Police arrested a 21-yearold man from Kolhapur for allegedly defaming the daughter of a political heavyweight from the state by posting objectionable and threatening posts on her Facebook and Instagram accounts. Police traced and nabbed the culprit 36 hours after the FIR was filed.
Rahul Sariputra, a resident of Murgud village of Kolhapur was arrested on Thursday by the Shivaji Park police. He was charged under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code and Information Technology Act.
Police sources said that Sariputra sent the victim’s friends Facebook requests after she refused to add him as a friend on the social media site. When he received satirical- humour posts via other online groups, he thought the victim was making her friends target him.
He then wrote objectionable and abusive posts on his own Facebook wall naming the victim and her friends in order to defame them. He also threatened them, said a police source.
Sariputra also created three Instagram accounts to comment on the victim’s posts.
On Thursday a police complaint was registered against Sariputra and the accused was traced to Kolhapur. He was arrested, brought to Mumbai and booked.
