This student paid £1,000 per day in rent in London
LONDON: The son of a former Moldova PM, who was paying £1,000 per day in rent for an apartment in Knightsbridge, London, has drawn the attention of British crime officials.
Vlad Luca Filat, a 22-year-old student, paid £390,000 upfront in rent for the apartment. He has now been ordered to hand over nearly half a million pounds following an investigation by the National Crime Agency (NCA).
The NCA’S financial investigators suspected that the funds were derived for illegal activity by the student’s father, Vladimir Filat. Three bank accounts in connection with the case have been frozen.
The NCA said the former Moldova PM is serving a nineyear prison sentence after being convicted in 2016 for his role in the disappearance of £646 million from three Moldovan banks.
