NAVIMUMBAI: A 32-year-old autorickshaw driver returned gold jewellery worth ₹1 lakh to a commuter, who had left them in the auto by mistake, in Ghansoli on Tuesday.

According to the police, Manoj Patil, 35, a resident of Ghansoli village had travelled in Sonu Panigrahi’s rickshaw from Ghansoli railway station to his residence with the bag of jewellery in the morning. While alighting the rickshaw, he however, forgot to carry the bag with him.

“After dropping him, Panigrahi went back to his auto stand. There, he spotted the bag inside the auto. He opened the bag and found the gold jewellery inside it. He, however, was confused over who was the owner of the bag, as quite a few people had travelled in his auto that day. So he came to us and handed over the bag,” said Tukaram Nilmbalkar, assistant police inspector from Rabale police station.

“After sometime, Patil also came to the station and told us about the incident. We asked a few questions to ascertain whether he was the owner of the bag Panigrahi handed over to us. Later, Panigrahi also confirmed that Patil travelled in his auto . We then handed over the bag to Patil. We have not registered any complaint,” Patil said.
