Biker slips, comes under BEST bus in Jogeshwari, killed

MUMBAI: A 38-year-old biker died after he slipped and came under the wheels of a Brihanmumb­ai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) double-decker bus near Majas Depot in Jogeshwari (East) on Tuesday.

According to Meghwadi police, the bus had left Majas depot around 6.35pm and turned right when Jigal Vora, the victim, was riding on a scooter behind the bus.

Police suspect Vora, who came too close to the bus, lost his balance and came under the bus wheel.

“Our team is at the spot and investigat­ing the actual cause of the accident,” said an officer from Meghwadi police station.

There were no passengers on the bus at the time of the accident. Police said the victim was taken to HBT Trauma Care Municipal Hospital in Jogeshwari where the doctors declared him dead.

At the time of going to press, the police was in the process of registerin­g a case.

Police retrieved documents from Vora’s clothes and found he is a resident of Kopar Khairane in Navi Mumbai.

“We have informed his father who is on his way to the hospital. The victim was declared dead at 7:30pm by the doctors of the hospital.”

A BEST spokespers­on said the name of the driver is Jitendra Bhikoba Nalawade, 40.

“The bus was proceeding from Majas Depot to New Seepz Bus station when the scooter skidded and fell. The rear wheel of the bus ran over the rider’s head,” said the spokespers­on.
