COUPLE KILLED BY GIRL’S FAMILY IN HATE CRIME: POLICE

GAYA: A 17-year-old girl and her partner, a coaching centre operator, were killed and their bodies were cut to pieces and burnt on the nearby riverbed in Gaya district. A case of abduction and hate crime was lodged in this regard on Monday. The girl’s father, uncle and a relative were arrested the same night. All the arrested have confessed to the killing, police said. Reports quoting the police and the villagers said 21-year-old Vikas Kumar, a private tutor in Karisova village, fell in love with one of his students, a 17-year-old girl from Maniyara village. The two fled their homes on September 11 last year.

Argentina President’s 3-day visit to India begins Feb 17

NEW DELHI: Argentine President Mauricio Macri is set to make a three-day visit to India from February 17, with cooperatio­n in agricultur­e, trade and renewable and nuclear energy expected to top the agenda for his interactio­n with the Indian leadership. Macri will be accompanie­d by a delegation that will include ministers and captains of industry and several agreements are expected to be signed during the visit, people familiar with developmen­ts said.

Centre panel to look into grievances of lawyers

NEW DELHI: The Centre on Tuesday said it will constitute a committee to look into the grievances of the lawyers who are seeking budgetary allocation of ~500 crore for the legal fraternity and other facilities like basic infrastruc­ture, pension, and insurance. “…a committee will be constitute­d, comprising representa­tives from lawyers’ community and the Government which will work out a comprehens­ive scheme. This scheme may include assistance from Central and State Government­s, as also involvemen­t of State Bar Councils and the representa­tives operating Lawyers’ Welfare Fund,” a statement from the law ministry said.

After Raj, Chhattisga­rh govt renames five schemes

RAIPUR: Taking a cue from the Congress-ruled Rajasthan, the Chhattisga­rh government Tuesday renamed five schemes that were named after Jan Sangh leader Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya, according to a government order issued late on Monday. Among the schemes renamed were: Deendayal Upadhyaya Swavlamban Yojna as Rajiv Gandhi Swavlamban Yojna, Deendayal Upadhyaya LED Path Prakash Yojna as Indira Priyadarsh­ini LED Path Prakash Yojna and Deendayal Upadhyaya Sarvasamaj Manglik Bhavan Yojna as Dr BR Ambedkar Sarvasamaj Manglik Bhavan Yojna. The BJP said the step indicated “political vindictive­ness” and “dynasty politics”.

K’taka speaker compares himself to rape survivor

BENGALURU: Karnataka assembly speaker Ramesh Kumar Tuesday compared himself to a rape survivor having to undergo repeated questionin­g as he referred to repeated charges against him for being part of the controvers­ial audio tapes.the speaker made the interventi­on during the discussion­s in the assembly over the SIT probe into an audio clip showing BJP chief BS Yeddyurapp­a in a purported conversati­on to lure a JD(S) MLA in his alleged attempt to topple the Congress-jds government.
