AAP’S Sanjay Singh cleared of charges of ‘misbehaving’
NEW DELHI: A Delhi court on Friday discharged senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjay Singh in connection with a complaint of misbehaviour filed against him by a woman party member.
The woman in her complaint alleged that Singh had pushed her and misbehaved with her during a road show at the time of Delhi civic body elections in 2017.
The court, however, directed framing of charges against two others for outraging the woman’s modesty.
Additional chief metropolitan magistrate Samar Vishal discharged Singh, his personal assistant Ajit Tiwari and another AAP worker Inaytullah from charges of outraging a woman’s modesty (Section 509 IPC). The court, however, ordered that charges for making colourful remarks (section 354 IPC) should be registered against Tiwari and Inaytullah as the complainant’s oral statements created grave suspicion on the commission of the offence and hence it was not possible to discharge them.
The court said that Singh, a Rajya Sabha member, had been “incorrectly chargesheeted by the police in the case and rather termed him to be a “victim”. Singh was also cleared of charges under Section 354 IPC (making

“The videos filed by the prosecution clearly shows that the accused Sanjay Singh has not done anything in the entire incident. The video does not show any kind of retaliation on the part of the accused (Sanjay Singh) despite him being slapped. Therefore, prosecuting him for the offence under Section 354/509 IPC shall not be proper and will amount to prosecuting a victim himself,” the judge said in his order.
According to the complaint filed by the woman, she had sought time to meet Singh to discuss the denial of a ticket to her for contesting the civic body election. However, Singh’s personal assistant Ajit Tyagi and another person, Inaytullah, pushed her during the road show following which she slapped Singh in anger. Retaliating to this, Singh had said that he will see her through some third person.
