DGCA asks Indigo to train its crew to curb mishaps
MUMBAI: After an inquiry into an accident at Mumbai airport on November 30, 2016, when the wing tips of an Indigo and a Kuwait Airways aircraft collided during taxiing operations, revealed that human error was responsible for the incident, the Directorate General Civil Aviation (DGCA) has asked Indigo to train their crew members about wing tip clearance.
A spokesperson of Indigo said the airline has complied with the DGCA’S recommendation. “The recommendation — of sensitising pilots on the airline providing guidance material to the flight crew regarding the difficulty associated with assessing wing tip clearance — has been complied with by way of a circular,” said the spokesperson.
The wing tip of the Kuwaiti Airbus A330, which was taxiing towards the parking stand, had collided with the Indigo (Mumbai-jaipur) flight 6E 207 Airbus A-320 which was taxiing out for departure at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in the morning.
The aviation regulator has also asked Mumbai International Airport Pvt. Ltd. to carry of assessment of the visibility condition and take necessary corrective actions.
The report said that there was no visibility related issue at the time of incident but the portion of taxiway (W4 / N) was relatively dark and could have been better lit up.
