MHA TO CONDUCT SURVEY ON POLICE SERVICES IMPACT

NEW DELHI: Union home ministry will carry out a pan-india survey to assess public perception on citizen-centric police services like women safety and reporting of crimes, a statement from the ministry said on Thursday. It will be called All India Citizen Survey of Police Services and ministry has commission­ed Bureau of Police Research and Developmen­t (BPRD), its research arm, to conduct the survey through National Council of Applied Economic Research. The survey will start next month and cover a representa­tive sample of 1.2 lakh households spread over 173 districts across the country. It will be completed in nine months.

Sitharaman: Defence PSUS should compete globally

6 dead, 50 injured as bus overturns in Uttar Pradesh

KANPUR: Six people, including two children, were killed and nearly 50 others injured after a private Volvo bus turned turtle on Agra-lucknow Expressway near Unnao on Thursday, police said. Additional superinten­dent of police, Unnao, Vinod Mishra said six people died in the mishap but their identity could not be ascertaine­d yet. “The bus with 60 people onboard was going from Delhi to Bihar. At least 12 people were critically injured and have been shifted to the trauma centre in Lucknow. The remaining passengers are being treated in Unnao,” he added.

Swami Swarupanan­d ‘lays foundation’ of Ram temple

VARANASI: Days after deferring his march to Ayodhya to perform ‘shilanyas’ (laying foundation) for Ram temple constructi­on, Shankarach­arya of Dwarka and Jyotishpee­th Swami Swarupanan­d Saraswati, in a symbolic move, laid the foundation of a model of the temple at Sri Vidyamath in Varanasi on Thursday. The Shankarach­arya laid the foundation on a map of the 67-acre plot believed to be the birthplace of Lord Ram. “The disputed site in Ayodhya is the birthplace of Lord Ram and a temple will be built there...do not want a statue,” he said.

Assam man charged with sedition for ‘pro-pak’ post

GUWAHATI: A 22-year-old man was sent to 14-day judicial custody by a local court after he was arrested on charges of sedition by Assam Police for allegedly writing ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ in a comment on Facebook. Diloar Hussain was arrested by police on Wednesday and produced before a magistrate on Thursday, as per officials.

CHENNAI: Two Congress legislator­s of Puducherry approached Speaker V Vaithiling­am on Thursday and lodged a complaint, charging opposition MLAS of luring them with offer of money and office to defect and topple the government. The ruling Congress was quick to charge the BJP and its allies, the All India NR Congress and AIADMK, with attempting to topple the democratic­ally elected Government by offering hefty sums as bribe. But, the BJP as well as the AINRC have denied the charge.
