Two in critical condition; seven undergo surgeries

MUMBAI: Seven of the 31 injured from Thursday’s foot overbridge (FOB) collapse near Chhatrapat­i Shivaji Maharaj Terminal (CSMT) underwent surgeries for limb and spinal fractures on Friday. Two patients are in critical condition.

Of the victims of the tragedy, six were pronounced dead on arrival at Gokuldas Tejpal (GT) and St George Hospitals of Colabal. On Friday, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and medical education minister Girish Mahajan visited the patients in the hospitals. Of the 16 victims who were taken to GT Hospital, three were pronounced dead on arrival. While three took discharge against medical advice and decided to get admitted in Jaslok Hospital, two others decided to be shifted to Bombay Hospital.

Wadala resident Aniket Jhadav, 20, who had recently started working in a company near CSMT, hurt his right thigh when he fell from the bridge. He says he finds it unable to sit. His uncle learnt about Jadhav’s condition when he saw his name on a news channel. “I rushed to the hospital,” said Chadramani Jhadav. Doctor performed C.T scan and will decide if Jhadav needs surgery.

Of those rushed to St George Sujay Majhi, 23 works at a gold ornament workshop Twenty-three-year-old Sujay Majhi said it was because of a few of his friends that he left two hours early from work. “I usually catch the 9.30pm Cst-dombivli fast train to go home but that day, a few of my friends forced me to meet. So I left early and ended up on the bridge at around 7.30 pm,” he said. Doctors said he has suffered a fracture to his right leg and possible spinal injuries.
