NAVY CHIEF HOLDS TALKS WITH TOP US OFFICIAL

NEW DELHI: Navy Chief Admiral Sunil Lanba Monday held extensive talks with Chief of US Naval Operations Admiral John Michael Richardson on ways to further deepen cooperatio­n between navies of the two countries. Admiral Richardson is on a three-day visit to India which began on Sunday. “Major issues discussed included operations, training interactio­ns, informatio­n exchange, capacity building and capability enhancemen­t,” the Indian Navy said.

CBI raids 22 educationa­l institutes in graft case

NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigat­ion on Monday raided 22 educationa­l institutio­ns in Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh after registerin­g a case related to alleged irregulari­ties in the distributi­on of scholarshi­ps worth ~250 crore for disadvanta­ged students by the Himachal Pradesh government during 2013-17, officials said.

Infosys gave up FCRA license: Home ministry

NEW DELHI: Infosys Foundation – a social non-profit seeking arm of the software giant Infosys - has voluntaril­y given up its registrati­on under the Foreign Contributi­on (Regulation) Act (FCRA), the ministry of home affairs said. A spokespers­on of the ministry of home affairs (MHA) said, “The license was cancelled at their own (Infosys Foundation) request. There was no violation.”

Alphons seeks action against Mumbai professor

NEW DELHI: Union tourism minister KJ Alphons has written to HRD minister Prakash Javadekar demanding action against a Mumbai University faculty member facing charges of plagiarism. A probe committee of the University had last month found Professor Neeraj Hatekar had copied substantia­l parts of his PHD thesis.
