ANDERSON SUFFERS KNEE INJURY DURING COUNTY GAME

LONDON: England spearhead James Anderson could be in for a ‘painful few days’ according to Lancashire coach Glen Chapple after suffering a knee injury while on County duty. Anderson, England’s all-time leading Test wicket-taker, was hit on the inside of his knee by a drive from James Fuller during Lancashire’s fourwicket defeat by champions Hampshire in a One-day Cup semi-final on Sunday. The 36year-old Anderson left the field at Southampto­n and will now require further medical assessment. “It is a nasty blow in a painful area,” said Chapple. “We don’t know but we think that it will be a nasty bruise that will settle down in the next few days.”

ICC clears Plunkett after ball-tampering allegation

SOUTHAMPTO­N: England fast bowler Liam Plunkett has been cleared by the ICC following allegation­s he may have tampered with the ball during the second ODI against Pakistan. A short sequence from Saturday’s match in Southampto­n led to a debate on Twitter, with some on social media suggesting the 34-year old had been involved in an act of foul play as a result of a three-second clip showing Plunkett rubbing his fingers along the surface of the ball. Plunkett himself is understood to have raised the issue with officials after becoming aware of the allegation­s and he has since been exonerated fully.

Kieron Pollard fined 25% for showing dissent

HYDERABAD: Mumbai Indians all-rounder Kieron Pollard was fined 25% of his match fee for showing dissent at an umpiring decision during the IPL final against Chennai Super Kings on Sunday. Pollard admitted to the Level 1 offence 2.8 of the IPL Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials and accepted the sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the IPL Code of Conduct, the match referee Javagal Srinath’s decision was final and binding. During the final over of the innings, an annoyed Pollard took strike near the tramline before nearly leaving the pitch and attracting the ire of the match officials.
