KDMC’S SENA CORPORATOR DEMANDS ₹1-L BRIBE, HELD
KALYAN : A Shiv Sena coporator from Kalyan-dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly demanding ₹1 lakh bribe from a contractor.
Gorakh Jadhav, 26, was elected from ward number 7 at Atali village in Kalyan.
The police said Jadhav demanded Rs1 lakh otherwise he would create hurdles in road and gutter work undertaken by the contractor.
The contractor approached the anti-corruption bureau (ACB), Navi Mumbai, and lodged a complaint against Jadhav on February 13. The Navi Mumbai ACB started investigating the case and found Jadhav guilty. On Tuesday, Navi Mumbai ACB arrested Jadhav and registered a case under section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 at Khadakpada police station. Jadhav will be produced in court on Wednesday.
As per the ACB, the contractor was appointed for the KDMC’S work of building roads and gutters at Ambivli, Shivaji Nagar, Kamgaar Nagar and Shani temple area in ward number 7, Atali village in February. The cost of the work is Rs9.49 lakh.
Jadhav had demanded 10 per cent commission from the contractor.
“Based on the investigation by our team, we found that Jadhav had demanded bribe from the contractor. We directed the Khadakpada police to register a case and arrested him on Tuesday,” said Ramesh Chavhan, deputy superintendent, ACB, Navi Mumbai. Chavhan said, “The corporator demanded bribe by threatening him of creating hurdles in the works undertaken.”
