A DELAYED, WEAK MONSOON MATTER OF GREAT CONCERN

Skymet’s prediction of delayed monsoon is worrisome (Rains set to arrive late in Mumbai, to be weak: Skymet, May 14). Keeping in mind that many people are dependent on rains, the government or BMC, as a precaution­ary measure, should construct additional dams to supply water . With just a couple of lakes supplying water to the city, it is imperative to conserve water. The existing water stock needs to be used judiciousl­y to prevent last-minute panic. DEEPAK CHIKRAMANE

CANDIDATES WITH CRIMINAL RECORD CONTESTING POLLS

It is alarming to note that the number of candidates with criminal charges has gone up in 2019 elections (More crorepatis, people with criminal cases in 2019 poll fray, May 14). It is rightly said that a nation is built by its people. Therefore, people should make sure only candidates with clean records to reach enter politics and contest elections.
