2 Nigerians attempt to clone cards, held
ON MAY 11, THE ACCUSED FIXED A SKIMMER AND A MICRO-CAMERA INSIDE A KANDIVLI ATM KIOSK
MUMBAI: Samta Nagar police have arrested two Nigerian nationals for attempting to rig an ATM kiosk at Thakur Complex in Kandivli (East) on Monday.
The main accused, Isahi Seyi, 34, had come to collect a skimmer and micro-camera, which he had fitted to the ATM to scan customers’ cards and record their pin numbers. According to the police, the accused lived at Pragatinagar in Nallasopara (East) and would clone cards and withdraw money.
On May 11, Seyi fitted a skimmer and a micro-camera inside the ATM kiosk at Thakur Complex. With the help of CCTV cameras inside the ATM kiosk, the bank came to know about it and alerted the police.
The police then laid a trap outside the ATM. On May 13, Seyi arrived at the ATM kiosk at 2am to collect the fitted devices. Suspecting something amiss, he got out of the ATM and got into an autorickshaw.
He jumped out of the autorickshaw and tried to run away, after noticing that police were chasing him, but was caught.
Seyi’s girlfriend, Kharad Mogi, 37, also his accomplice, was arrested later the same day. Senior inspector Raju Kasbe of Samta Nagar police station said, “They have been remanded in police custody for further probe.”
The police said the accused have not submitted their passports and are not cooperating in the investigation.
This is the second incident where cybercriminals have made a skimmer at home. The police are unable to find out since when they have been staying in the country and are trying to trace if they are involved in any other criminal offences.
