Suryakumar’s effort goes in vain as Tigers win opening match
MUMBAI: Arjun Tendulkar fared well in his T20 Mumbai League debut, scoring a 19-ball 23 and picking a wicket as his team Aakash Tigers recorded a fivewicket win over defending champions Triumph Knights at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday.
Batting first, skipper Suryakumar Yadav waged a lone battle for the Knights, scoring a 56-ball 90 to help them post 147 for six. Rest of the Knights’ batsmen struggled to get going with none of them managing to cross the 15-run mark.
There were no such issues for Tigers as their collective efforts saw them reach the target with three balls to spare. Aakarshit Gomel (41), Kaustubh Pawar (34) and Tendulkar (23) played useful knocks to set the platform for their victory.
Tendulkar bowled in the first powerplay but didn’t show any jitters, keeping it tight, not allowing batsmen any room to go after him. In three over he conceded 21 runs and took one wicket. While batting he mixed caution with aggression, rotating the strike and hitting big shots in between.
Later, Sobo Supersonics recorded a comprehensive 48-run win over ARCS Andheri. Parag Khanapurkar’s 49-ball 96 helped Supersonics post 188. In reply, ARCS lost wickets at regular intervals and were restricted at 149 for nine.
