Player representation, CAG in MCA focus

- HT Correspondent

MUMBAI: In an Apex Council meeting of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) on Tuesday, future representation of cricketers and Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) nominee in the council was brought to question.

Currently, two former India cricketers, Kiran Powar and Samantha Lobatto, attend Apex council meetings as representatives of Indian cricketers association (ICA). A CAG nominee would also need to be appointed soon, mandated by the new constitution as per the SC order.

It is learnt, secretary Sanjay Naik informed the members that the ICA representatives only be invited to the Apex council for cricketing matters and CAG nominee for finance and accounts matters, citing the

BCCI AGM.

During the meeting, the members were also reminded of MCA’S prayer before the SC where the association had argued that it “only had clubs as its members and there were no individual members, and that the cricketers have a right to vote in the ICA, hence cannot be granted voting rights at MCA”.

Many in the association look at this stance as anti-reform and a move to sideline cricketers.

MCA president Vijay Patil, who chaired the meeting, asked for the minutes of the BCCI AGM to be examined and decided that legal opinion be sought, before taking any decision.

Meanwhile, MCA will write to the BCCI asking why the MCA secretary and not the president was nominated to present an award during the India-wi T20I presentation ceremony.
