India to host...
CGF president Dame Louise Martin in statement said: “I am delighted that we have approved India’s ambitious proposal to host a Commonwealth archery and shooting championships in Chandigarh during 2022.
Both archery and shooting disciplines weren’t included in the programme for 2022. India had been dominating the event and had threatened to pull out of the games if shooting wasn’t included. In the previous edition held at Gold Coast, Australia, India had had won 16 medals seven of them gold.
But following a meeting with Indian Olympic Association (IOA) and CGF in November here in New Delhi, it was decided to resolve the issue.
Archery has featured in two editions of CWG till date. The first was in Brisbane, Australia in 1982 while the second was in New Delhi, India in 2010.
World Archery secretary general Tom Dielen too issued a statement saying, “this is a fantastic development for archery and a great opportunity for elite athletes in India and from the across the Commonwealth.”
The ISSF in a statement, said, due to refusal of the Birmingham Committee to conduct shooting competitions the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) took over this function with the support of the ISSF keeping the quotas and medals for athletes. We hope that no special efforts will be required for the 2026 Commonwealth Games,” the ISSF said.
The NRAI president Raninder Singh said, this is path breaking and innovative approach that the CGF is piloting in partnership with Commonwealth Games India (CGI). “Acceptance of our proposal is truly a game changing methodology to host a prestigious multi sport event such as the CWG,” Singh said in a statement.
“We look forward to work with all the stake holders to conduct an international event in a cost effective and efficient manner,” he added. state will go to mid-term polls owing to the differences between the ruling parties. BJP MP Narayan Rane on Sunday said that the MVA government could topple in the next 11 days.
In the backdrop of these statements made by Opposition leaders, Thackeray assured ruling coalition members that the MVA government will complete its five-year term. The CM said that although the Opposition was trying to destabilise the government, there was no threat to it. Pawar and Thackeray also issued a diktat that the three parties’ legislators must attend the House sessions regularly and should aggressively counter the Opposition attacks.
Thackeray also said in the meeting that although the three ruling parties follow different ideologies and aren’t expected to change them, they should not appear divided. “On some issues, the stances of three parties may differ at the state and national level, but it should not lead to a rift between them. The leaders of all three parties should restrain from making any contradictory statements. Legislators and leaders should not even indulge in one-upmanship that could portray the alliance in bad light,” a Congress MLA quoted Thackeray as having said.
