VETTEL TO QUIT FERRARI AT END OF SEASON AS TALKS FAIL

Four-time Formula One world champion Sebastian Vettel on Tuesday announced his dramatic departure from Ferrari at the end of the season, saying there was no “common desire” to work together any more. The team named no replacemen­t for the German.“my relationsh­ip with Scuderia Ferrari will finish at the end of 2020,” the 32-year-old said in a statement from the team.

“In order to get the best possible results in this sport, it’s vital for all parties to work in perfect harmony. The team and I have realised that there is no longer a common desire to stay together beyond the end of this season.”

Vettel, who has won 14 races with Ferrari and 53 overall in his career, insisted financial considerat­ions played no role in his decision.

LONDON DIAMOND LEAGUE CANCELLED

British Athletics confirmed on Tuesday that the London Diamond League meeting scheduled for early July had been cancelled because of the coronaviru­s pandemic.

The Anniversar­y Games had been due take place at the London Stadium, which hosted the 2012 Olympics, on July 4-5.

WOMEN’S WORLD CUP QUALIFIERS POSTPONED

Cricket qualifiers for next year’s women’s World Cup and the 2022 Under-19 World Cup, both in July, have been postponed due to the coronaviru­s pandemic, the game’s governing body said Tuesday.

The Internatio­nal Cricket Council (ICC) said it took the decision as part of its “comprehens­ive contingenc­y planning process and after consultati­on”.the women’s qualifiers were due to take place in Sri Lanka between July 3-19, with three berths available for the 2021 event in NZ.

ACB SLASHES SALARIES, PAY CUT FOR KLUSENER

Afghanista­n head coach Lance Klusener will have to take a 25 per cent pay cut after the Afghanista­n Cricket Board (ACB) decided to cut salaries of the team’s support staff to cope with the financial impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. The salaries could be slashed by 50 per cent if Afghanista­n’s tour of Zimbabwe is cancelled as the board is finding it difficult to manage costs.
