Uthappa reveals battling depression

India cricketer Robin Uthappa has revealed that he battled clinical depression and suicidal thoughts for nearly two years during his career, a phase when cricket was perhaps the only thing that kept him from “jumping off a balcony”.

“I remember around 2009 to 2011, it was constant and I would deal with that on a daily basis. There were times where I wasn’t even thinking about cricket, it was probably the farthest thing in my mind,” he said during the Royal Rajasthan Foundation’s live session ‘Mind, Body and Soul’. “On days, I would just be sitting there and would think to myself on the count of three, I’m going to run and jump off of the balcony but something kind of just held me back,” he recalled.

MERCEDES F1 BOSS BACKS HAMILTON

Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff has given six-times Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton his full backing for the passionate condemnation of racial injustice after the death of George Floyd. “It is very difficult for us to comprehend how difficult it is and therefore I am happy and supportive that he has come out vocal. He is one of the ambassadors of this sport and I think it’s good,” Wolff said.

Meanwhile, mercedes will not rule out Sebastian Vettel’s chances of driving for them next year because they may need a replacement for Hamilton or

Valtteri Bottas,wolff said.

Wolff said, “It’s not lip service. But I think we owe it to a four times world champion not to come out and say straight away ‘no’. You need to think about it... we have a fantastic line-up and I’m very happy with both our pilots and George (Russell at Williams). But you never know.”

NADAL NOT SURE ABOUT 2020 US OPEN

If it weren’t for a pandemic-caused postponement, the French Open would have been in Week 2 now, and Rafael Nadal might still have been in contention for a 20th Grand Slam title. Instead, he’s home in Spain, practicing lightly and wondering whether the next Grand Slam tournament, the US Open, will be held. “If you (ask) me today, I will say, ‘No,’” Nadal said.
