SC PUSHES BCCI HEARING BY TWO WEEKS

- Agencies

MUMBAI:SOURAV Ganguly and Jay Shah can continue as president and secretary of BCCI for some more time as Supreme Court on Wednesday said that they will hear the matter after two weeks.

The case was listed to be heard on Wednesday by a two-judge bench comprising Chief Justice of India Sharad Bobde and Justice L Nageshwar Rao. During a short hearing the court said it would sit again in a couple of weeks to discuss it.

BCCI, on behalf of these senior board functionaries, have appealed in Supreme Court seeking a revision of the rule in the new constitution which states that administrators have to take a three-year cooling-off break after six successive years in any state unit or in the BCCI. While Ganguly’s term will end on July 27, Shah’s term ended earlier this month.

UAE AWAITING BCCI CONFIRMATION

NEWDELHI:THE Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) on Wednesday confirmed that they are waiting for an official confirmation from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to host the Indian Premier League (IPL).

“We are awaiting final confirmation from BCCI regarding being the host nation. There is also the final condition of BCCI gaining approval from the Indian government that they can host the IPL outside India,” the Emirates Cricket Board said in a statement.

END COULD’VE BEEN BETTER: KUMBLE

NEW DELHI: Former skipper Anil Kumble does not regret his time as head coach of the Indian team but says the ending of his tenure could have been better.

The 49-year-old stepped down after the Champions Trophy in 2017 following a rift with skipper Virat Kohli.

“We did really well in that one year period. I was really happy that there were some contributions made and there are no regrets. I was happy moving on from there as well,” the former spinner told ex-zimbabwean cricketer Pommie Mbangwa in an online session.

“I know the end could have been better but then that’s fine. As a coach, you realise, when it’s time to move on, it’s the coach who needs to move on.”
