Trump, Biden to accept nominations remotely
WASHINGTON: In a major break from tradition due to the Covid-19 pandemic, US President Donald Trump and his presumptive Democratic challenger Joe Biden will accept their respective party nominations in speeches delivered remotely.
“I’ll probably do mine live from the White House,” Trump told Fox News.“it’s easy and I think it’s a beautiful setting, and we are thinking about that... It’s the easiest alternative.”
The Democratic National Convention said later that Biden “will no longer travel to Milwaukee (venue of a pared down convention) and will instead address the nation and accept the Democratic nomination from his home state of Delaware”. Candidates have traditionally accepted the nomination at lavishly mounted conventions that last up to four days.
Democrats have released a draft manifesto that vowed to “continue to invest in their strategic partnership with India”. It also promised to end the freeze on green cards and take steps to end its backlog, if Biden is elected president. It also opposed the decision of the US President to temporarily suspend the issuing of H-1B visas, which is used by thousands of Indians.
