Khar home of Ranas to be inspected for illegalities
MUMBAI: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued a notice of inspection to the residence of Maharashtra MP Navneet Rana and her husband, MLA Ravi Rana, for inspecting their premises on the 8th floor of La Vie building in Khar West for unauthorised construction. The inspection will take place on Thursday May 4.
While the notice does not address the Ranas by name, it has been issued to the owner/ occupier of the 8th floor of Lavie building on 14th Road, Khar West. The notice was issued by the designated officer of the H/ West ward office under section 488 of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act (1888), which authorises civic officials to enter the premises, inspect the premises for unauthorised construction, and take photographs and measurements where necessary.
The notice read, “I hereby give you notice that, I shall, on the day 4/5/2022, thereby anytime pursuant to provisions of the last-named [section 488 of MMC act, 1888], enter with assistants or workmen into or upon the premises no 8th floor, La Vie, plot 412, in order to inspect the said premises, taking photos and measurements.”
Vinayak Vispute, assistant commissioner of the H/west ward remained unavailable for comment.
This notice is similar to notices issued in the past to BJP minister Narayan Rane at Aadhish Bungalow in Juhu, and to Khushi Belmondo building in Santacruz West, where BJP leader Mohit Khamboj’s owns multiple flats.
The Ranas were arrested from their Mumbai residence on April 23, for declaring their plan to recite the Hanuman Chalisa outside Matoshree, the private residence of Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray in Bandra.
Advocate Rizwan Merchant, who is the lawyer for the Ranas said, “I am not aware of such notice. If it has been issued, and if inspections are to take place, they have to take place in the presence of the owner/occupier. If they are not present, we will have to see what is to be done.”
