NEW DELHI: India’s top housing finance firm HDFC Ltd said it would raise its retail prime lending rate on home loans by 30 basis points (bps) with effect from May 9, according to an exchange filing on Saturday. Several lenders have increased lending and deposit rates following the RBI’S surprise repo rate hike on Wednesday. The revised HDFC rates for new borrowers range between 7% and 7.45%, depending on credit and loan amount.

MUMBAI: Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, who inaugurated the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s ambitious ‘Water for all’ policy on Saturday said that he would “speak his mind” and “unmask” his opponents at an upcoming rally to be held in the city.

Without naming the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is in opposition in the state, Thackeray said that he would “unmask” those who give “false promises and mislead the people” at a political rally slated for May 14 at the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) in view of the upcoming civic polls to be held later this year.

The CM was in Goregaon on Saturday to launch the BMC’S policy that aims to provide water connection to unmapped settlements in the city including slum clusters, Gaothans (erstwhile villages) and Koliwadas (fishing villages) as well as inhabitants of unauthorised settlements on government land parcels. The civic body, which did not supply water to unauthorised structures, clarified that the policy did not imply ownership or title of any property before the court of the law.

“The BMC is rigorously working towards expanding the means of water supply by setting up Sewage Treatment Plants (STPS) and Desalination Plant to ensure the sea water gets recycled and there is adequate stock of water,” Thackeray said.
