NAVI MUMBAI: Four people, including two children, were found dead in a holiday cottage at Alibag on Tuesday afternoon. A 25-year-old woman and a 31-year-old man were found hanging, while two kids aged five and three were found dead on the bed. Prima facie, it appears to be a case of extra marital affair, wherein the woman from Pune had eloped with the man, along with her children. The deceased are all residents of Shikrapur in Pune.

“The four of them were staying at Blossom Cottage since May 11. On May 2, the woman’s husband reported a missing person’s complaint with Shikrapur police and had claimed in his complaint that his wife and children were missing. On the same day, the woman too reported a missing person complaint about her husband,” Raigad

Superintendent of Police Ashok Dudhe said.

“Prima facie, it seems that the couple, who were in an extra marital affair, had eloped. They might have then decided to kill the children and then die by suicide. Only after a post mortem report, we can clearly say if the children were smothered or poisoned,” Dudhe added.

Alibag police has registered a case of accidental death. “Depending on the findings of the postmortem reports and further investigations, a FIR would be registered,” Dudhe said.
