LIVERPOOL: Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah on Friday signed a long-term contract extension, putting an end to a lengthy saga about his future at the Premier League club.

The Egypt internatio­nal has signed an extension until 2025, with the deal coming after Sadio Mane left to join German Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich on a three-year deal last month.

“I feel great and (I am) excited to win trophies with the club,” Salah told the club website. “It takes a little bit of time, I think, to renew, but now everything is done so we just need to focus on what’s next.”

FIFA to use new tech for offside calls at WC

GENEVA: FIFA will introduce new technology to improve offside calls at the World Cup in Qatar this year, using a limbtracki­ng camera system.

FIFA said it is ready to launch semi-automated offside technology (SAOT) that uses multiple cameras to track player movements plus a sensor in the ball, and will quickly show 3D images on stadium screens at the tournament to help fans understand the referee’s call.

Stimac meets COA but no word on contract

NEW DELHI: Indian men’s football team head coach Igor Stimac met the Committee of Administra­tors (COA) on Friday virtually for the first time after the panel took charge of the affairs of the AIFF following the ouster of the Praful Patel-led dispensati­on.

However, both the COA and Stimac refused to say whether the issue of his contract came up for discussion in the meeting. Stimac’s existing contract ends in September.
