SAXENA’S CENTURY POWERS MUMBAI TO VICTORY

MUMBAI: Divyaansh Saxena’s second century in three matches guided Mumbai to a convincing eight-wicket win over Rajasthan in the Men’s Under-25 State A Trophy in Rajkot on Wednesday.

Chasing 267 for victory, Saxena hit a 131-ball 148 as Mumbai overhauled the target in 43.3 overs. He hit 20 fours and two sixes. The opener had scored 116 against Odisha on Sunday but didn’t bat in the second match against Sikkim. Against Rajasthan, Saxena stitched a 167-run partnershi­p for the first wicket with Musheer (82, 85b; 9x4, 1x6) which put Mumbai on path to victory. MCA invites applicatio­n for academy coaches

The Mumbai Cricket Associatio­n (MCA) on Tuesday invited applicatio­ns for various coaching posts for their academy at BKC.

According to the requiremen­ts posted on the MCA website, those interested in applying for the post of batting, fast bowling and spin bowling coach should have played 25 or more first-class matches or should be Level II or Level III NCA certified coach and should have adequate experience of coaching.

Those interested in fielding coach’s job should have played five or more first-class matches and must match the other criteria mentioned for batting and bowling coaches. The last date to apply for the job is November 25.

Ex-mumbai Ranji player Gupte no more

Guru Gupte, who represente­d Mumbai and Railways in the Ranji Trophy, passed away at his Thane residence on Wednesday. He was 66. Gupte, who played 12 first-class matches and scored 461 runs, was part of the Mumbai squad that won the Ranji title in 1980-81. His highest knock of 170 came in the second innings of that season’s semi-final against Tamil Nadu. Later, he served as Mumbai selector as various levels.
